Taking Care of Tattoos

Did you just get a tattoo? Well, now you are a walking piece of art. The good news is that taking care of tattoos is quite simple if you follow a few key instructions.

It might be really tempting to lift that bandage off of your new tat the moment you get home…but don’t do it! Instead, leave the bandage in place for at least four hours. The next day, you can wash your new tat, but don’t use anything other than your hand to wash it. Do not use any cloths or sponges to clean the area. For the next two days, be sure to wash the area at least twice per day, but don’t put the bandage back on. You must allow the area to air dry completely every day after washing it. The next few steps are crucial when it comes to taking care of tattoos.

After the two day initial period, apply Bacitracin or skin lotion to the area in order to keep it from drying out. For the next week, do not bathe or cover the area with a lot of water. Try to keep the tattoo completely clean, moist, and dry for a few weeks. After a month or so, you can wet the area again; just don’t get it near any chlorine, sun, or salt. Soon, you will discover that the area becomes rather itchy – don’t scratch it! Instead, smack the area with an open fist in order to relieve any itchy feeling. Once the area has dried and healed, you will be left with a beautiful piece of art that is all your own.

As you can see, taking care of tattoos is not hard to do. Once your tattoo has been completed, the artist will tell you exactly how to care for it. So, make sure to listen to the advice that you are given. If you follow the instructions perfectly, your tattoo should glow for the rest of your life. The most important part of caring for your new tat involves those first few days. The rest of it is as easy as being careful not to scratch or mar the surface in any manner. Also, remember that chlorine can be a bother to new tattoos.

You probably spent a lot of time picking out the right tat. Not to mention the money that you spent getting it. So, doesn’t it make sense to care for it properly?

There’s nothing difficult about taking care of tattoos, all you have to do is be a bit more careful than usual. Follow the steps that your artist gives to you, and you should not have any trouble at all.
