Greek Tattoos

Before modern Greek tattoos surfaced, symbols of this kind were quite common in Ancient Greece. Not only is the language itself one of the oldest in the world, it is also one of the most meaningful.

Greek words have been muttered throughout Europe for thousands of years now. Since that time, there have been numerous dialects created including Hellenistic; Modern Greek; and Dhimotiki (current language used by most Greek people). Those that choose to have Greek tattoos placed on their body do so in order to express cultural pride. Also, some people that are not of Greek heritage may choose one of these symbols in order to show their love for Greek culture. There are numerous English translations for Greek phrases that might suit your particular lifestyle.

Some popular phrases (you will have to look up the Greek lettering for each) include: Gnothi seauton (know yourself); Dos moi pa sto, kai tan gan kinaso (Give me a place to stand, and I will move the earth); pistis, elpis, agape (faith, hope, love); tap anta rhei kai ouden menei (everything flows, nothing stands still); and kai gar hois allo meden, aute pareste (when all is gone, there is still hope). There are also numerous Greek symbols that can be inked according to the meaning behind them. If you are desperately searching for some type of translation, there are a few sources to consider.

Rather than head to a chat room and bombard people with possible names and idea that must be translated, consider heading to a free online translation service. Or, you can pay a small fee to have a Greek translator come up with the right kind of spelling for the world or phrase that you have in mind. If you are not a native Greek speaker, be careful regarding the spelling of the word that you have chosen. Often, people misspell words due to the fact that they do not take the time to find the correct spelling. If you are in doubt, find a native Greek person and ask about a translation. Greek tattoos can be beautiful things if you choose the right one for you.

Behind every great tatt is a bit of research. Those that come up with original phrases and names do so thanks to lots of hours spent researching ideas and thoughts. Spend some time in the library going over classical, and modern, Greek phrases in order to find the best one.

There are lots of possible Greek tattoos that you can have done. Try and find one that really reflects who you are as a person.
